Afghanistan: Cradle of Civilization and Crossroads of Tolerance
Afghanistan, often defined by modern conflict in the eyes of the world, is in fact one of the most ancient centers of human civilization and cultural convergence. To truly understand this land, we must look beyond recent headlines and appreciate the profound historical, religious, and cultural richness that has shaped its identity for over 10,000 years.
An Ancient and Enduring Civilization
Afghanistan’s roots in human history run deep. Archaeological evidence points to thriving prehistoric cultures and complex societies long before the rise of the well-known Indus Valley Civilization.
Mehrgarh Civilization (7000–3300 BCE), located across the Durand Line in the region historically connected to Afghanistan, was one of the earliest farming settlements in South Asia. It showcases early advancements in agriculture, metallurgy, and even proto-dentistry.
